Saturn/ Uranus Opposition Stepping Stones to Change

Stepping Stones To Change
With the last but one of the Saturn/Uranus oppositions, the last one in the current series occurs on 26th July this year, there cannot be many of us who have not noticed the massive changes our world is undergoing.
The interesting thing about this opposition aspect & the opposing viewpoints it throws up is the urge for change from the Uranian energy and the desire to maintain the status quo courtesy of the Saturnian energy of the opposite pole.
Uranus as an energy wishes to bring change into life because the perception of what is stable, the building blocks of our world, both personal & global, no longer serve and are becoming dangerous. It is as if the bed rock of society’s stability has changed from rock to quicksand and is in danger of total collapse if change does not happen. Saturn on the other hand reflects the opposite poll to this, wanting to maintain the current structure at all costs. It is the memory facility and is only too aware of the fallout from the forces change being given their head.
While none of us singly can do much to effect change on a global level we can and perhaps should embrace change on a personal level. It is not rocket science that change is required if we are going to find new and stable ways of living on our planet. Each of us has to accept that change begins one person at a time and can build into an unstoppable force.
One way of effecting manageable & meaningful change is to look at the strength of the planets in the birth chart. Each planet can be graded to its effect or strength by its position in its sign, house position & by the aspects it has to other planets.
The stronger a planet is the more its effect is felt within the personality. Making small changes in the way a particular planetary energy is used can bring about great & very noticeable change into the response to life.
If we look at the 3 ego planets Sun, Moon & Saturn these are perhaps the most obvious examples I could use.
Sun which represents the sense of self that sense of “I AM” a possible change in the use of Sun energy would be to say “WE” rather than “I” from time to time. Imagine if occasionally the thought was what would “WE” like rather than what would “I” like. I will let you play with that thought to see how much it could influence your response to life.
Saturn represents the sense of security, memory & habits. Perhaps in the area of habits it is the easiest place to have change. Maybe you could walk to the bus stop or underground station a different way for a week. How might that change the way you view some things?
Moon rules the feeling part of us, just as the actual Moon changes on a daily basis so do our feelings. One area to start small changes is selfishness, leave the last chocolate biscuit in the tin. Try it once then see how many other levels you can apply that on.
Simple things perhaps but how much impact can they have on how we live. A vast river started from one drop and a journey of a 100 miles begins with the first step. Clichés maybe, but true none the less.
Imagine 6 billion people on the planet making one small change in the way they live that makes one big change. Our future is made one day, one hour, one moment at a time.

Retrograde Venus

Venus Goes Retrograde 7th March 17:17 GMT
Today Venus, patron saint of hairdressers, fashion designers and fashionable punters everywhere, turns retrograde. This heavenly event happens once every 18 months and lasts for around 40 days and 40 nights. Venus, being the heavenly hedonist, means this is a great time for revisiting your favourite restaurants, having a change of haircut or a revamp of the wardrobe ect.
When a planet turns retrograde it appears from our vantage point on earth to change direction and travel in the opposite direction. Next time you pass a mirror, stop, check it out and ask yourself self if it’s time for a change of direction. If you are tired of looking at the same old you then grab the bull by the horns and have a change.
Venus, ruler of Taurus the Bull, is a happy hedonist and with all the doom and gloom being spread about it is past time we all cheered up. It might not be the best of time to be selling shares, Venus retrograde might pull the markets lower but it might be a good time to buy. Personally I would prefer a new suit rather than some cheap tatty bank shares.
Venus is also very cosy with the sign of Libra and as Libra is the sign of partnerships now is a good time to have a look at them. Partnerships are not only about your nearest and dearest they take in partnerships on all kinds of levels. The stores you shop in and the banks you owe money to form partnerships with us. It could be that now is a good time to change shopping habits. The corner grocer’s shop might be a much nicer and friendlier place to visit compared to some big corporate monster grocers. It might be harder to find an ethical bank but it might be worth writing to the one you use and tell them what you really think of the way they have been conducting their affairs.
Optimism

Is Your Glass Half Full?
I reckon humanity falls into two very distinct camps. There is the half full camp and opposing them is the half empty lot. A quick read of the papers and a trawl round the internet and you quickly find it is the half empty chaps getting the column inches. Maybe they’re right to be so pessimistic about the world’s affairs at the moment but I am not so sure about that. Gloom creates gloom and a happy smile lights up the world for miles around. There is so much gloom and talk of Armageddon it gets me to wondering if it’s becoming a self fulfilling prophecy. Like attracts like and maybe it makes a bit of sense to have some sort of optimistic health warning attached to every article that appears in the press on the internet and television.
Like the warning on a packet of cigarettes there could be “The writer of this piece scores x or y on the Optimism Meter. Anything under five say and your happy face is under threat over 5 and reading or listening to this will bring a smile to
your face. Of course there would have to be a realism factor built in.
One way to achieve this Optimism Meter would be to look at the position of Jupiter in the birth chart of every politician and chattering monkey in the media. An aspect to Saturn might reflect the realism quotient. One to the Sun could be counted as a generally happy disposition and a connection to the Moon shows how emotionally affected the monkey is to emotional upset or not. Venus could show the leaning towards comfort and ease or general liking for the wearing of a hair shirt and a spot of self flagellation.
I am not suggesting a commentator with a low optimism score should be kept in a box, however there are some who think life is about suffering and appear to get off on spreading the misery. Maybe Buddha did indeed say all life is suffering but on the other hand it might be attributable to some misery guts in history who decided to put his own spin on the actual words Buddha did speak. Anyway I think the type of suffering Buddha was talking about had more to do with spiritual separation rather than the separation of money from wallet.
"Optimism is the faith that leads to achievment. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence."

Saturn Uranus Opposition
- By Andrew Duncan
- » 15th January, 2009
Fear is stalking the land, everywhere you look there’s bad news scaremongering and woe. But here’s a thing about the current Saturn/Uranus opposition, it can be viewed as either a scary thing which is going to bring the bad man knocking at the door (Saturn) or a breath of creative fresh air (Uranus) which helps to break out of the old Saturnian ways of doing and being.
Personally, I often wonder how frightened the political rulers, the heads of media organisations and big corporate executives are, they appear to be doing their best to scare the living daylights out of the rest of us to the point where we’d become afraid to go out at night or buy anything just in case the bad man comes calling! It seems to me everywhere I look business is cutting back, running down their stock levels and generally behaving as if the end has come. One of the knock on effects of this is of having existing customers go elsewhere to buy the stuff they want and need. It then turns into a self fulfilling cycle of cutting back and cutting back some more until there is nothing left and bleeding to death is the outcome.
Poor Mr Saturn what a hard time he gets he only wants us to take care and look after ourselves. Squeezing all the joy and happiness out of life is not what he is about. For some that is obviously the case but it need not be. Uranus the diviner creator of new ideas can be just as strong and as useful an energy to listen too.
Mary Quant, the fashion design queen of mini skirted 60’s Britain was saying recently how this can be an exciting and profitable time of discovery using the innovative ways needed to overcome the effects of (you can supply your own word or words) the current economic malarkey. It’s hard at this present time to hear the voice of Uranus over the din of all the Saturnian clamour that’s going on.
Astrology and the Zeitgeist

Pluto in Capricorn and Tuning into the Zeitgeist
Now that Pluto is settling in to Capricorn, for the next 15 years, we can expect to see some far reaching changes in the way we are governed and how big business conglomerates go about their affairs. I often think big business and big government go hand in hand but perhaps that’s just my paranoia.
Pluto is the Lord of Change and Capricorn represents, amongst other things, government and big business.Just how these changes will work out is anybody’s guess. I certainly don’t have a crystal ball and so will just have to wait and how the changes work out.
However astrology is a truly magic tool for tuning into the zeitgeist, or the mood of the moment. It is uncanny how often the stars reflect life on earth, as above so below, is a very true cosmic saying. Even without the use of a crystal ball an understanding of astrological theory can help unravel what is going on and why it’s going on.
Something I came across just recently was the news that Essex council was thinking of introducing loans to help small business’s get over the credit crunch. The person being interviewed could as yet not give hard and fast details of how they were going to achieve this, I guess he’s not got a crystal ball either. It did make me wonder if big government can’t get the big banks to lend to small business then perhaps it is up to small government, local councils, to find ways of helping a small business to survive.Maybe we are about to see a return to the old credit unions where people on a local level pool their resources and lend to others in the community.
Might this be a reflection of the current Saturn Uranus opposition ,where the need for change (Pluto) requiresnew ways of doing and looking at things (Uranus) andout weighs the security of the past (Saturn) and of the established order (Capricorn).
Change Happens One Person at a Time

Change Happens One Person at a Time.
On Sat 15th November 2008 in Washington USA some of the heads of world governments will hold a fancy word party with the current credit crisis as the theme. Gordon Brown is one of the attendees at this beano and I wonder how many of his fancy words will be for his new world vision. Mr Brown has given a number of speeches on his vision for a new world order and I can’t help wonder if his new world vision is not his old Saturn in fancy dress.
It will be a brave politician who actually supports a new way of doing things and is Gordon brave or does he just talk new while thinking old. Saturn is about supporting the status quo and seeking safety and security from what has gone before. Much better to build a high wall of security guards, motor cavalcades and 5* hotels to keep a scary new world locked out rather than invite the cosmic rebel Uranus to the party.
Another thing I wonder is how much change from the old Saturnian ways do we the people really want. Saturn can be very much like a comfy old pair of trainers, a little down at the heel and a bit leaky when it rains and that new pair of Uranian 7” killer heels look cool but could you really walk in them.
Of course you never know until you try them. That’s the thing about Uranus you never know how it will pan out. Maybe with a bit of practice those killer heels will be the best thing you can imagine to have on your feet. I can’t think of a new pair of shoes that a guy might want but the principal of change is the same.
We can see the credit crunch as something we have to get through until the economic cycle changes and the merry go round starts again or we can take the opportunity to have some fundamental change in our personal approach to money and possessions and scale back the wants and work out what really is needed for a happy healthy existence and find a balance between them. Constant change is a pain and the thing with an opposition is to balance the poles and find the best in both.
As the economy slows down take the chance to slow down and smell the flowers. No politician of the current crop is going to tell us to do that. They are too scared we might start to enjoy a more sustainable life style and then where would their chums in the corporate sector be?
Uranus is about being different, thinking and acting differently. If we want the world to change then change has to happen one person at a time and then maybe the type of politician we get will change also. That might be optimistic and that’s a function of Jupiter and that’s a tale for another day.

Saturn and Uranus go Planetery Dancing

Saturn and Uranus Go Planetary Dancing
The cyclical dance of these two planets does indeed seem to have rather an effect on the economic affairs of our society. Whenever there have been recessions, bursting bubbles and other types of mayhem on the stock markets this planetary pair are not too far away. I admit to a cursory look into the stock market crashes but since the depression in the 30’s, the oil shocks of the 70’s, Black Monday of 1987 on into the present financial turmoil. There they are hanging about like a couple characters waiting to gate crash the money train. I get the impression the universe is trying to send us a message concerning where we find security (Saturn) and a need to find other, maybe revolutionary ways of achieving it (Uranus). So far we seem to be failing pretty miserably. Perhaps the arrival of Pluto into the mix will lead to some collective responsibility and an understanding of how to go about achieving sustainable economic growth both personally and collectively. One thing’s for sure nobody has a clue as to what the financial markets are going to look like when the present malarkey ends never mind forecasting when it might end.
As to whether this resembles the depression of the 30’s or some other past recession does it actually matter. We have to deal with the here and now. It does not much matter if you are in the soup kitchen line wearing Armani or Primark, it’s the same line.
I have decided to have my own Saturn/ Uranus opposition dance at home. On one side, in a drawer, is my credit card, which is going to stay in that drawer come hell or high water (Saturnian responsibility). On the other side is my Uranian self promising to have a good look at my Venus which is the planet responsible for much of the impulse buying I indulge in. My Venus sure does like buying clothes and that is going to have to stop. I am going to have to come up with ways of indulging my fashion sense without visiting my favourite stores as often.......... more to come
Oh yes we live in interesting times.
Transiting Pluto
- By Andrew Duncan
- » 29th September, 2008
Generally astrologers are of the opinion transits show where the outer world will be having an affect on your life. In reality what might this mean for you as an individual?
In the astrological world there is an emphasis on the planet Pluto at present. This is due to Pluto moving out of the sign of Sagittarius and entering Capricorn. Pluto has to do with change, power, new ways of thinking and clearing away ideas and ways of being which are past there sell by dates and are holding back further development. We can see this happening in the turmoil of the financial markets, which are undergoing a change which will have far reaching effects on how the finances of the world and the individual will be governed in the future.
There is not much each of us can individually do to change the impact or the happenings of this financial turmoil our world is facing at the moment. Even those whose job it is to deal with these momentous events seem to be having great difficulty in understanding what to do about this dodgy state of affairs. There does not even appear to be a consensus of where to pin the blame. So what can each of us do to have some sort of handle on theses events and how might they impact on our lives?
The outer planets of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move very slowly around the zodiac. The Sun takes a year to move through all 12 of the signs whereas Pluto takes 248 years to complete the journey. As the journey of the 3 outer planets takes more than an average life time to travel through the signs they have more of a generational effect rather than a personal one.
The house which has Capricorn on the cusp is the area of the birth chart where Pluto is going to transit over the coming 16 years, until November 2024 in fact. It is this area of a birth chart where personal issues of power and control will be confronted. Don’t be misled into blaming Pluto for the problems or issues you may find yourself confronting. Try to see it as a gift from the universe and see it as an opportunity to confront and change some of your ideas and ways of being which are past the sell by date.
It is at the start of a sign change that the impact of a transit such as this can be felt. More so if one of the main angles of the birth chart or any of the planets are aspected by the transiting planet, in this case Pluto
