Pluto in Capricorn and Tuning into the Zeitgeist

Now that Pluto is settling in to Capricorn, for the next 15 years, we can expect to see some far reaching changes in the way we are governed and how big business conglomerates go about their affairs. I often think big business and big government go hand in hand but perhaps that’s just my paranoia.

Pluto is the Lord of Change and Capricorn represents, amongst other things, government and big business.Just how these changes will work out is anybody’s guess. I certainly don’t have a crystal ball and so will just have to wait and how the changes work out.

However astrology is a truly magic tool for tuning into the zeitgeist, or the mood of the moment. It is uncanny how often the stars reflect life on earth, as above so below, is a very true cosmic saying. Even without the use of a crystal ball an understanding of astrological theory can help unravel what is going on and why it’s going on.

Something I came across just recently was the news that Essex council was thinking of introducing loans to help small business’s get over the credit crunch. The person being interviewed could as yet not give hard and fast details of how they were going to achieve this, I guess he’s not got a crystal ball either. It did make me wonder if big government can’t get the big banks to lend to small business then perhaps it is up to small government, local councils, to find ways of helping a small business to survive.Maybe we are about to see a return to the old credit unions where people on a local level pool their resources and lend to others in the community.

Might this be a reflection of the current Saturn Uranus opposition ,where the need for change (Pluto) requiresnew ways of doing and looking at things (Uranus) andout weighs the security of the past (Saturn) and of the established order (Capricorn).

Change Happens One Person at a Time.

On Sat 15th November 2008 in Washington USA some of the heads of world governments will hold a fancy word party with the current credit crisis as the theme. Gordon Brown is one of the attendees at this beano and I wonder how many of his fancy words will be for his new world vision. Mr Brown has given a number of speeches on his vision for a new world order and I can’t help wonder if his new world vision is not his old Saturn in fancy dress.

It will be a brave politician who actually supports a new way of doing things and is Gordon brave or does he just talk new while thinking old. Saturn is about supporting the status quo and seeking safety and security from what has gone before. Much better to build a high wall of security guards, motor cavalcades and 5* hotels to keep a scary new world locked out rather than invite the cosmic rebel Uranus to the party.

Another thing I wonder is how much change from the old Saturnian ways do we the people really want. Saturn can be very much like a comfy old pair of trainers, a little down at the heel and a bit leaky when it rains and that new pair of Uranian 7” killer heels look cool but could you really walk in them. Of course you never know until you try them. That’s the thing about Uranus you never know how it will pan out. Maybe with a bit of practice those killer heels will be the best thing you can imagine to have on your feet. I can’t think of a new pair of shoes that a guy might want but the principal of change is the same.

We can see the credit crunch as something we have to get through until the economic cycle changes and the merry go round starts again or we can take the opportunity to have some fundamental change in our personal approach to money and possessions and scale back the wants and work out what really is needed for a happy healthy existence and find a balance between them. Constant change is a pain and the thing with an opposition is to balance the poles and find the best in both.

As the economy slows down take the chance to slow down and smell the flowers. No politician of the current crop is going to tell us to do that. They are too scared we might start to enjoy a more sustainable life style and then where would their chums in the corporate sector be?

Uranus is about being different, thinking and acting differently. If we want the world to change then change has to happen one person at a time and then maybe the type of politician we get will change also. That might be optimistic and that’s a function of Jupiter and that’s a tale for another day.

One way to save a little cash is to have a hair cut when the Moon is in the waning part of its cycle. Hair cut between the full and new moon will not grow as fast as when the moon is waxing. This applys to anything which grows, the grass does not need to be cut as often and the weeds in the garden are easier to pull out and take longer to grow back at the time of the waning moon. A waxing at the beauticians lasts longer if it's you having the waxing and not the moon

Another way to save some cash is arrive early for an appointment where they have a supply of new glossy magazines. That way you can catch up with out having to splash the cash on buying your own.

Saturn and Uranus Go Planetary Dancing

The cyclical dance of these two planets does indeed seem to have rather an effect on the economic affairs of our society. Whenever there have been recessions, bursting bubbles and other types of mayhem on the stock markets this planetary pair are not too far away. I admit to a cursory look into the stock market crashes but since the depression in the 30’s, the oil shocks of the 70’s, Black Monday of 1987 on into the present financial turmoil. There they are hanging about like a couple characters waiting to gate crash the money train. I get the impression the universe is trying to send us a message concerning where we find security (Saturn) and a need to find other, maybe revolutionary ways of achieving it (Uranus). So far we seem to be failing pretty miserably. Perhaps the arrival of Pluto into the mix will lead to some collective responsibility and an understanding of how to go about achieving sustainable economic growth both personally and collectively. One thing’s for sure nobody has a clue as to what the financial markets are going to look like when the present malarkey ends never mind forecasting when it might end.

As to whether this resembles the depression of the 30’s or some other past recession does it actually matter. We have to deal with the here and now. It does not much matter if you are in the soup kitchen line wearing Armani or Primark, it’s the same line.

I have decided to have my own Saturn/ Uranus opposition dance at home. On one side, in a drawer, is my credit card, which is going to stay in that drawer come hell or high water (Saturnian responsibility). On the other side is my Uranian self promising to have a good look at my Venus which is the planet responsible for much of the impulse buying I indulge in. My Venus sure does like buying clothes and that is going to have to stop. I am going to have to come up with ways of indulging my fashion sense without visiting my favourite stores as often.......... more to come

Oh yes we live in interesting times.

Transiting Pluto

Generally astrologers are of the opinion transits show where the outer world will be having an affect on your life. In reality what might this mean for you as an individual?

In the astrological world there is an emphasis on the planet Pluto at present. This is due to Pluto moving out of the sign of Sagittarius and entering Capricorn. Pluto has to do with change, power, new ways of thinking and clearing away ideas and ways of being which are past there sell by dates and are holding back further development. We can see this happening in the turmoil of the financial markets, which are undergoing a change which will have far reaching effects on how the finances of the world and the individual will be governed in the future.

There is not much each of us can individually do to change the impact or the happenings of this financial turmoil our world is facing at the moment. Even those whose job it is to deal with these momentous events seem to be having great difficulty in understanding what to do about this dodgy state of affairs. There does not even appear to be a consensus of where to pin the blame. So what can each of us do to have some sort of handle on theses events and how might they impact on our lives?

The outer planets of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move very slowly around the zodiac. The Sun takes a year to move through all 12 of the signs whereas Pluto takes 248 years to complete the journey. As the journey of the 3 outer planets takes more than an average life time to travel through the signs they have more of a generational effect rather than a personal one.

The house which has Capricorn on the cusp is the area of the birth chart where Pluto is going to transit over the coming 16 years, until November 2024 in fact. It is this area of a birth chart where personal issues of power and control will be confronted. Don’t be misled into blaming Pluto for the problems or issues you may find yourself confronting. Try to see it as a gift from the universe and see it as an opportunity to confront and change some of your ideas and ways of being which are past the sell by date.

It is at the start of a sign change that the impact of a transit such as this can be felt. More so if one of the main angles of the birth chart or any of the planets are aspected by the transiting planet, in this case Pluto
