The Inner Warrior Meditation

This Meditation is designed to help get in touch with the Inner Warrior the energy symbolised by the planet Mars.

Mars is the planet in astrology symbolising the drive or energy which is the power to get what we need to stay alive. It is an energy which one way or another we can often misuse and not for nothing is it named the flight or fight reflex.

The meditation will give an experience of how we feel about this reflex. It may be too passive in which case flight will often be the first option. If it is a Mr or Mrs Angry we carry about inside then fight will more often than not be the option of choice.Perhaps fear of letting go and a need to keep Mr Mars chained up or an inability to be able to keep him under control are causes of concern.

Inner Warrior

Meditation:

Sit in a comfortable position with your back straight and feel yourself becoming well grounded into the earth then take a few deep breaths.

See yourself surround by a peaceful white or golden light and know that you are safe, secure and in a happy place. As your mind starts to slow down and your attention is drawn into your inner being, allow it to sink slowly down.... bringing your focus to centre on a point about 4cms below your navel, this is where your Inner warrior has his or her camp. You might find it helpful to place your hands on this area.

Take a few deep breaths and imagine you are blowing into the embers of a fire. With each breath the fire glows hotter, brighter and more alive. With every breath you are becoming aware of a core of inner strength which will support you through all the challenges life will bring. If you feel the fire is becoming too hot imagine pouring a shovelful of earth on it. This will cool the fire down without putting it out. Remember you are always in control of the fire and this meditation is designed to bring more awareness to your inner power and help you to become a master or mistress of the inner fire.

With each breath you are becoming more aware of the energy contained within this area. As the energy builds and the embers of the fire glow brighter and brighter.... the centres of the embers start turning a vibrant orange.

As you focus your awareness in the centre of the fire you notice a shape or shapes appearing in the heat. As the shape becomes more distinct you realise you are meeting the Inner Warrior.

The energy may appear in many different shapes and guises. It may appear as a warrior monk, a soldier, a knight in shining armour a pillar of fire or perhaps just a feeling. For each of us it is unique, it is our own expression of our inner power. It is the energy which gives power to our will, it is what gets us up and going in the morning and fuels a racing mind when it is time to sleep.

Spend time here and get to know your warrior, strike up a conversation or just hang out with this energy. If you chose to begin a dialogue find out how brave or foolhardy the warrior is. Is this a happy soldier you carry around inside or is this Mr Angry....... Take the opportunity to discover how your inner power is motivated into action. Spend as long as you like and remember you can return to the fire at any time. The more often you practice this meditation the more awareness you will gain and the more conscious control over the energy you will have.

When you wish to return to your everyday reality slowly allow the heat to fade from the fire and bring your awareness to the surroundings. Be aware of the sounds around you and the pressure of your body on the seat and your feet on the floor. Stay in this awareness until it is until it is time for you to return to all that life has in store for you.

As you go through your daily life try to contact the warrior in a conscious way. Try to watch how you act and react to stimulation and circumstances when you are called upon to utilise the Martian energy inside you.

Life is a path walked and as the scenery changes so too does the awareness of our inner processes and energies. With this is mind I believe it is a worthwhile exercise to return to this meditation from time to time to discover how the awareness of the Inner Warrior changes with the passage of life.
