The Transpersonal planets are Uranus, Neptune and Pluto they are generally more or less out of the control of the personal ego.

Transpersonal Planets

Uranus Neptune Pluto

The last three planets, in this series of short articles describing planetary energy, are the Transpersonal Planets. Generally they are more or less out with the control of the personal ego on a mundane everyday basis. They represent the drives that move us up and onwards through the evolutionary journey of life. To make any use of these energies we have to consciously develop the themes or behaviour associated with them. Otherwise they tend to be viewed as disruptive or having negative effects on our everyday lives. To contact the energy these planets represent it is crucial to have the luxury of free time. Without this it is not possible to watch life unfold around us and reflect on what has happened on our journey through this life. The recurrent themes in our life give valuable clues as to how our personal spirit or soul seeks to manifest its self on earth.

In the past a custom of some societies was for some to retreat into a cloistered shelter after having fulfilled the raising of a family and working to support them until the obligations to society were fulfilled. It was at this point one could then spend the rest of life in contemplation of the meaning of life. Although for the vast majority of us these days we do not enter the monastic life it is, for most of us, only the passing of years which give us time to reflect on where we are in life and how we got there. This is why the practice of meditation can be important, it gives us the opportunity to stop and gain insight into how our life is unfolding. When the going gets tough in life it is generally when we are being asked to confront the energy symbolised by the transpersonal planets and by taking time it can become possible to gain insight into the areas of our behaviour which are holding us back from fulfilling our ultimate destiny.

Because these planets stay for so long in each sign they are considered to have a generational effect. However with an accurate birth time the house position and quadrant they lie in make a more personal interpretation possible.

To orbit the Sun it takes Uranus 84 years, staying in each sign for 7 years. It was discovered in1781 just before the French revolution (1789) and just before the signing of the American Declaration of Independence in 1776. This gives a clue as to the effect Uranus can have in our lives. When a need for security or repetitive behaviour causes an individual to become stuck in life, this is the energy which gives the ability to look at stuff in a different and often revolutionary manner.
A Divine rebel, it is about seeing things in a new light it can be eccentric and will always try to be individual in its way of working. Funnily enough it is security motivated, it just does not like be tied down to the same dull old outdated routines..

With an orbit taking 165 years it stays in each sign for approximately 14 years

Discovered in the year 1846 coinciding with the discovery and use in anaesthesia of Chloroform, however as the use of Chloroform would suggest this energy can be difficult to understand on a conscious level. It has been likened to moving through a fog on a misty day. Shapes can be seen but the edges are blurred making the shapes unrecognisable. Confusion, lack of boundaries and escapism are some of the less than complementary words used to describe Neptune. On the plus side there is divine creativity, selfless love and a desire for total inclusion or a sense of oneness with all of creation. Where there is a desire to sacrifice the self and to put others first is where we often find Neptune.

Has an orbit which takes 247 years to complete its journey round the Sun and because of the eccentric orbit it can stay
from 12 to 31 years in a sign. Discovered in 1930 just as the atom was being split (1932), which ultimately led to the atom bomb. Pluto embodies the energy of sudden and often cataclysmic change in life. Think earthquake and volcano. When ways of behaving are past there sell by date this is what brings changes to our way of being. Connected to the Lord of the Underworld Pluto is symbolic of the unconscious of each of us. When our world is touched by the energy of Pluto it can often seem like we have suffered an atomic explosion and the landscape of our life has changed beyond recognition.
